Profile
Before names like Jonathan Antin and Ken Paves were gossip rag staples, hair guru Garren ruled the world of celebrity ‘dos. His client list included superstars (Nicole Kidman, Madonna, Oprah) and supermodels (Cindy, Naomi, Christy) alike and he’s long counted designers Marc Jacobs and Anna Sui among his legion of fans. Commoners usually have to wait several months for his signature, razor-sharp layers and ultra-precise short cuts (think Isabella Rossellini), but a handful of more accessible stylists on-staff have less-dense booking calendars. The studio’s current palatial digs, after stints at the Plaza and Henri Bendel, occupy a 3,500 square foot space at the Sherry-Netherland Hotel. With its sweeping views of Central Park and architecture modeled after the Vatican library, this salon make getting a new look feel like a black-tie affair.
Bridal HairThe stylists at this gorgeously appointed salon with views of the park are known for their versatility, but classic brides should book Jason Quinn for his simple yet elegant updos. For an edgier, retro do, or for those considering extensions, Manabu Unno is the one to see. A consultation is $55; on-site styling is $255.
