Profile
Situated on bedrock UES turf, Gil Ferrer’s salon (open since 1975) has certainly earned its reputation for fabulous haircuts and exquisite color. The namesake stylist says his philosophy is simple: “Ask not what you can do for your hair, but what your hair can do for you.” One of the first in New York to introduce thermal reconditioning (a.k.a. Japanese hair straightening), he uses a similar technique for the thermal curl, which relaxes tight, frizzy hair into soft, silky curls. The salon offers related beauty services as well: mani-pedis, waxing, reflexology, neck-scalp massage, and makeup consultations drawing on the in-house cosmetics line. Ferrer also has his own line of hair products.
ExtraIn summer 2006, Gil Ferrer opened a second salon in Bridgehampton, where he’s in attendance two days a week, so Hamptonites needn’t race back to town for hair care.
Bridal Hair
At this time-honored uptown salon, brides can get an updo (from $250) and makeup
(from $150), and bring their bridesmaids to sip wine and get made up as well
(bridesmaids’ hair from $85; makeup from $85).
