Profile

This venue is closed.

With the closing of the East Village "DT" half of DT*UT in early 2005, only the Upper East Side half carries on. Despite the quality of the food, it remains the best place to meet a friend over coffee and a snack. Décor is earthy crunchy collegiate, with worn couches and easy chairs, mismatched wooden coffee tables, and desk-height dinner tables for groups of students who set up books and laptops (there's free Wi-Fi access ). Tapestries cover red brick walls, and faux crystal chandeliers provide moody light. Nearly everyone is of college or graduate-school age, aside from the occasional free-spirited older Yorktown resident. There's a modest assortment of bottled foreign and domestic beers, and about a dozen red and white wines, along with the expected coffees, lattes, and teas. Too many snack items aren't worth the indulgence or the price, so eat elsewhere. DT*UT claims to have invented "Indoor S'mores," which may be true, but the chocolate fondue is a better choice—it's suitably gooey, served on a flame with fresh strawberries and marshmallows.

Extra

There's an 11 a.m. story hour on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for 1- to 4-year-olds, complete with milk and cookies.
