Profile
Long associated with granny footwear, Bally has come a long way since its humble beginnings in a small Swiss town in the 1850s. The once family-owned shoe company more recently repositioned itself as a global luxury brand in 1999, with a spare, chic Manhattan store to match its newly minted image. Yet while its inventory has evolved to include modern sportswear and embellished leather accessories, the store also retains the solid collection of shoes that earned it a following. Low-level bouclé seating and dark wood showcases focus attention on eye-catching calf-hair heels and quilted leather handbags. Hiding out in the back of the shop is a choice collection of men’s and women’s fitted leather jackets, patterned puffy coats, finely knit merino sweaters, and slim trousers.
