Just as Marc by Marc Jacobs and See by Chloé are generally younger, slightly trendier offshoots of high-fashion houses, so is Dolce & Gabbana’s D&G. This bi-level store with a reflective metal and mirrored interior is the only D&G in Manhattan, and with separate rooms for lingerie, accessories, juniors, menswear, and womenswear, this outpost has become a destination for tourists. And while D&G certainly is more accessible than Dolce & Gabbana couture, it’s still not for the timid; after all, what has kept the Italian design house relevant since its 1985 inception has been its flair for flamboyance and exhibitionism. Tiger-print tops, patchwork denim tube dresses, and fire-engine-red platform pumps make up the women’s collection, while the similarly adventurous menswear collection sports studded jackets and stonewashed jeans. Gold chain-link bracelets, pendant necklaces, and cases of logo-emblazoned watches highlight the accessories. And D&G Junior, the store’s youth line, even makes leopard-print dresses for little girls.
FormalwearD&G caters to the svelte and stylish. Its blazers (from $650) are skinny, and the pants (from $275) are even skinnier. Suits start at $995.
