Eschewing the hands-off policy of some newer chains, Livi's Lingerie is still a place where a woman can get measured by a foundations maven—exemplars of a dying art. Established in 1948, the store is packed with retro-style displays and plenty of function-over-fancy undergarments, with some racier, sexier items sprinkled throughout. Livi's carries a good sampling of all the basics from brands like Natori, Olga, and Wacoal, but the store distinguishes itself with the diverse selection of items in non-mainstream categories like bridal and post-surgical. Old-school salesladies are quick to guide brides-to-be toward a lacy bustier for under the wedding dress, or a slinkier number for the honeymoon; new moms find a selection of nursing bras; and professional fitters in the comprehensive surgical section help women recovering from mastectomies find prosthetic enhancers or other undergarments.
