Profile
South African chocolatier Justine Pringle first started selling her confections at her husband’s concerts (singer/songwriter Andy Laird). Before long, Pringle’s chocolate business had earned groupies of its own, and she branched out to selling at Brooklyn foodie spots like Bierkraft, Blue Apron, and the Brooklyn Flea. In January 2009, she opened her first Nunu storefront, hanging her mother’s paintings on the walls and selling single-origin chocolates that combine high-quality ingredients in unusual combinations. The cocoa is sourced from a family farm in Colombia and most other ingredients used are organic. Standout creations include the best-selling creamy salted caramels, as well as chocolate-covered grahams, and absinthe and mescal chili truffles. After scoping out the spread, shoppers linger at a long farm table, where they can sip hot chocolate, wine, or beer, and sample treats like chocolate lollipops and caramel-cashew bark.
