Gateway Arch - Ron Johnson, South Windsor, Connecticut

The concept I am proposing is a "Monumental Gateway Arch."
This gateway, facing Vesey Street to the north, would serve
as the entrance to the WTC site. The multi-storied entablature in this plan would actually
house the WTC museum, as well as restaurants, shops, entertainment,
day care centers, etc. In effect: "A city in the sky" which
encompasses six buildings, the additional buildings would
stand behind the outer buildings. The entablatures would continue around to the south forming
an "L" at each end. The two central buildings would then be
considerably taller than the other four. The south facade
of the entablature would have an observation deck where visitors
could look down from the WTC Museum to the memorial park with
the footprints of the destroyed buildings being the focal
points. From there, one would also look south along "The promenade"
towards Battery Park, The Statue of Liberty, the Verrazano
Bridge and Wall Street. This concept plan would incorporate two ideas from the city's
                    initial proposals. First, the "Memorial
Triangle Plan" as a basic footprint for the site,
and then, the promenade from the "Memorial
                    Promenade". Submit
your comments: What do you think of this proposal? |
