Beverly’s

Motor City Bar is closing; the rumored-to-be-moving Max Fish is populated by Murray Hillers; and liberal-arts and finance
kids have made No Fun bar, well,
no fun. So what is there in
the Lower East Side for the Lower East Siders? There’s Beverly’s. Opened by alumnae (refugees?) from LES dives like Sweet Paradise and the Pink Pony, Beverly’s offers only basics to its neighborhood crowd of art
and fashion folks (if you’re looking
for something more complex
than a $7 Beam and Coke, look elsewhere). While minimalism
is the look, the bare, lavender-gray space—lit only by thin strips of neon fluorescents—is decorated with bursts of art chosen by curators who select work exclusively from artists who have previously shown in galleries.
