Café-Slash-Local, Manhattan

Upright Brew House
547 Hudson St., nr. Perry St.; 212-810-9944
The long-awaited Manhattan branch of Greenpoint’s Upright Coffee is now pulling espressos daily. What’s more: The sunny Village location serves an extensive list of craft beers by the pint or half-pint, as well as hard-to-find bottles like Bar Harbor’s True Blue blueberry wheat ($7), plus large-format brews like Jolly Pumpkin’s 8.1 percent ABV Madrugada Obscura ($48 for 750-ml.). Locals convene on the sunlight-flooded, soul-soundtracked ground floor to relax, study, or snack on the full menu of American eats, then venture downstairs, where there’s additional seating and—giving a youthful twist to an otherwise thoroughly mature drinking environment—a trio of pinball machines.
