Boca Raton
Not just for your grandma anymore - Drew Nieporent has arrived

From the March 26, 2001 Issue of New York

If Miami is just a little too overheated for the Florida weekend of your dreams, and Palm Beach has a few too many froggy pants for your taste, the $120 million renovation of the Boca Raton Resort & Club may have turned it into the ideal middle ground. An imposing pink structure built in the twenties, the Boca has five pools, biking and jogging trails, 30 clay tennis courts, two eighteen-hole golf courses and a Jack Nicklaus golf school, plus classes in boating, boxing, and yoga. There's a separate club with a half-mile of private beach and cabanas, accessible by hotel bus or boat. And the most significant sign that Boca is no longer worth visiting only if your grandparents have a condo there is the arrival of some serious new restaurants, including Drew Nieporent's Lucca, a Nick's Fishmarket, and the gourmet 27 Ocean Blue, complete with wraparound ocean view from the top of the Tower building. You'll never have to leave the resort, though die-hard shoppers may not be able to resist an outing to Boca Town Center mall, and new off-campus dining spots like Zemi's, Gigi's, and Morton's are also worth going AWOL for.
