Rockstarbaby
298 Elizabeth Street
212-226-2771
Rockstarbaby has got it over everyone else right now hipster-wise. Baby blue and pastel pink are verboten at this NoHo spot. What you will find are T-shirts (starting at $12), slim dresses, motorcycle jackets ($110-$120), denim vests, and understated alpaca-wool cardigans for infants through 2-year-olds (regular onesies start at $20). Even the diaper bags are cool: redesigned drum cases. Some pieces feature DJ Rock'o, the monkey; Hiphop, the hippo; and the Noteheads, a band of rock-and-roll ants.
Children's Resale
121 Second Avenue
212-673-5424
If your preference tends toward the designer collections but your pocketbook cries Kmart, check out Children's Resale. What started as a tag sale at Myrna Skoller's Long Island home has slowly morphed into an Upper East Side institution. This consignment shop goes from infant to size 12, and a recent visit uncovered a pair of Italian patent-leather snow boots ($12), a johnny-collar blouse with a race-car motif ($4), and a curiously hard-to-find stuffed hedgehog ($1.50).
