Mollie Cohen & Andrew Berman
Liberty Warehouse
September 10, 2011
Mollie Cohen and Andrew Berman, both 29, met in 2001 as freshmen at the University of Colorado. “I tried to get her to come to my dorm room to drink vodka and dance to Tom Petty,” says Andrew, a custom furniture maker. At first, Mollie held him at bay. “He turned out to be the funniest person I’d ever met,” she says. “Plus, he’s extremely confident and very thoughtful.” That Valentine’s Day, they grabbed burgers during a 3 a.m. study break, a tradition they repeat every February. “I knew we’d be together forever, but I wasn’t sure about getting legally married,” says Mollie, a merchandiser for J. Crew. “Andrew thought it was really romantic to officially be each other’s family. After attending many friends’ weddings, I agreed.” Ten years after they met, the couple made it official at Red Hook’s Liberty Warehouse. Inspired by the venue’s all-American vibe (and Andrew’s hankering for Americana), they had an indoor barbecue and covered the floor with live grass to evoke a backyard feel. “I started off as the anti-bride and ended up having the best time,” Mollie says. “I have no regrets about really going for it.”
