- Gotham Chamber Opera
-
In the city’s classical-music sphere, it used to be that going small meant settling for less. Not so with Gotham Chamber Opera, which, in spite of the crises facing larger companies, is thriving. Approaching its tenth year, Gotham is in banner shape thanks in large part to artistic director Neal Goren’s stewardship (he has never put on a bigger season than the company can financially handle) and risk-taking vision. One example: Diane Paulus’s winter 2010 production of Haydn’s Il Mondo Della Luna (The World on the Moon), which will take place in the most appropriate and inspired of settings—inside the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History.
