Just Opened

Proof that Soho doesn’t have a monopoly on home-furnishing stores.

Soha Style

CONTEMPORARY
Soha Style
15 W. 116th St., nr. Fifth Ave.
It’s just a couple of months old, and already the Harlem store—the brainchild of Gwen Wallace and her son, Don—is smartly attuned to the tastes of the neighborhood’s brownstone renovators and new-condo dwellers. An on-site design consultant (call ahead for an appointment) steers buyers toward Philippe Starck chairs (from $330 to $410), Bernhardt sofas (from $4,824), and Desiron dining tables ($2,500 to $3,800).

ACCESSORIES
Georgia Tapert Living
456 Broome St., nr. Mercer St.; 212-334-7969
Georgia Tapert’s Soho boutique opened in December, but its fresh, eclectic homewares seem ripe for spring. On the high end, you’ll find $9,000 Dorothy Draper screens; on the low end, there’s a set of four linen cocktail napkins ($38) and delicate water glasses with handpainted bluebirds ($15 to $18 each).

MID-CENTURY MODERN
Galleryqb
163 Plymouth St., nr. Jay St., Dumbo; 718-222-1885
Quincy Ballon’s multifunctional space—part vintage-furniture showroom, part art gallery, with shows rotating every two months—carries finds like Gideon Kramer’s original “Ion” chair for Seattle’s Space Needle ($600), the classic Knoll “Suzanne” sofas ($1,200), and an antler-based coffee table with a Lucite top ($1,200).

LIGHTING
Tom Dixon at ABC Carpet & Home
888 Broadway, at 19th St.; 212-473-3000
If you are a Tom Dixon fan—and in modernist design circles, who isn’t?—here’s your Mecca, smack dab in the center of ABC Carpet & Home. The brand-new Dixon shop has a complete collection of the designer’s furniture and lighting, including the Cage Light ($332), shades in copper ($498) and felt ($286), the Pipe Table Light ($540), and his Mirror Ball collection (from $415).

KITCHENWARE
Kitchen Couture
5213 Thirteenth Ave., nr. 52nd St., Borough Park; 718-686-8200
A welcome sight in otherwise un-swanky Borough Park, this new kitchen store is grand (2,000 square feet) and stylish (lots of Viking, Calphalon, Krups, Swiss Diamond, and Scanpan). The Cuisine Wok can be found here and only here, along with unusual colors (like “dijon”) from Le Creuset.
