Goldman (as in Sachs) has long been a presence on Wall Street. And SoHo and
South Beach pioneer Tony Goldman (no relation) has quietly been building a
real-estate empire downtown since he opened Wall Street Kitchen and Bar in
1996. Now he's restored the nineteenth-century Blackstone Cafeteria and
renamed it the Stone Street Tavern, bravely opening this week despite the
post-attack downtown chill. The 92-seat room reflects a sense of age, with
old wood, tables and chairs made from recycled barn doors, and outdoor
furniture made from century-old wine barrels. Prices are somewhat retro as
well: Grilled salmon is $12, chicken Parmesan with asparagus casserole and
potatoes $13, a ten-ounce burger $8.50. For those who want more of a
splurge, there's a $23 strip steak and a $26 rack of lamb.
