Profile
In 1999, ABC's morning news show moved from a windowless Upper West Side studio to its new base at 44th and Broadway in Times Square, where early risers can now watch the broadcast from the street, thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows and a giant video screen. Good Morning America is the only morning news show to have an audience on set; fans looking to secure one of the 100 standing-room spots can make free online reservations at least a week before the desired taping. A lucky few might even be interviewed on camera, typically thanks to a kooky story, so your odds are increased if you're a soccer mom–turned–amateur wrestler or if it's your 95th birthday. Others hoping for a little screen time can try their luck with stand-by tickets, which are distributed an hour before show time at 7 a.m. Everyone else has to settle for waving and holding up a "Hi Mom" sign from outside the studio's plate-glass windows.
