Profile
Although Sheep Meadow is now one of the most peaceful spots in the park, it was originally intended to be used for military drills! A fecund, 15-acre expanse of grass, the Meadow is an ideal site for sunning, guitar strumming, Frisbee tossing and, well, some illegal activities (i.e., you'll probably smell the marijuana). At one point, there were actual sheep here; they slept in a building that is now part of Tavern on the Green. Since the 1960s however, the Meadow has been home to concerts and war protests—ironic considering its initial purpose.
