Profile
Named after a song in Cabaret, Don't Tell Mama is a true cabaret haunt. A narrow three-room suite—with a front piano bar, two side rooms for small-scale solo shows—this is where to see the famous as well as the wannabe famous. There are up to three performances nightly in the two cabaret theaters, but what makes Don't Tell Mama such a showstopper is the way Sidney Myer, its longtime booking manager, varies the diet. While he may be an American Songbook diehard, Myer also showcases rock 'n' roll vocalists, comedy groups, new musicals and highly respected impressionists. For popular long-running shows like Judy Garland & Liza Minnelli Live At Mama's! with Tommy Femia and Rick Skye (female impersonators), seating can be tighter than a Victorian corset. But usually the rooms are empty enough for every patron to garner his or her own table. So sit back, have a drink, enjoy the vocals, laugh at the jokes and come to the cabaret, old chum.
