Profile

Drew Dvorkin realized he made more money bartending than teaching high school on Long Island, so he opened this classic Irish pub in 2002. The bar was christened George Keeley in honor of his father-in-law, whose name is also aptly Hibernian. With a main room bedecked in stately mahogany, a brass-railed bar, and extensive paneling, the setting does its namesake proud. Retro tin and neon beer ads provide more commonplace accents, while upholstered banquettes and small tables encourage cozy conversation. Nine televisions show everything from soccer and rugby to college football and the NFL. The pub’s real draw, however, is an impressive selection of rotating drafts, with 22 artisanal brews like Dogfish Head, Founders, and Saranac Wheat. Keeley’s is also one of the few bars in town to offer cask ale which uses an antique, gravity-powered engine to pour non-carbonated, unpasteurized, and unfiltered beers.
