Although Brooklyn’s out-of-the-way Red Hook district may seem an unlikely place to find a fantastic music venue, it’s due to its remote location that The Hook is able to call itself “one of the best sounding rooms in NYC.” With no neighbors nearby, bands jam as loudly as they want to—and the venue has yet to receive a single noise complaint. The 3,200-square-foot space offers multiple floors, unobstructed views of the stage, plenty of seating, and a patio for smokers. The club is renowned for its unpretentious atmosphere and staff, and attracts live bands and fans of every genre. The downside is the location, but the club often compensates, providing free parking, shuttle services from Carroll St. on nights of big shows, and free drinks in exchange for cab receipts. And many fans seem to think that it’s worth the trek. After all, the club has what its Manhattan counterparts lack: space, seating, affordable drinks, and BBQ every night.
