Profile
Functioning by day as a café and bike-and-design company hybrid that also operates a sister bar in Tokyo, this hipper-than-thou Williamsburg haunt proves that, in this neighborhood, it’s not enough to be just a bar—or a bar that doubles as another business: It has to be everything all at once. Kinfolk attracts D.J.’s so up-and-coming you can’t find them anywhere else; they descend on the open, high-ceilinged space with turntables and vinyl in tow and turn on assorted trustafarians, art-school dropouts, and freelance “creative directors” by spinning Loose Joints’ “Is It All Over My Face” and other songs you’ve never heard of. Prepare to drink a lot of Japanese beers, like Asahi ($7)—as well as their signature, "The Kit" (a shot of Kentucky bourbon chased by a Budweiser for $8). And don’t dare forget your high-waisted jorts and neon tank top with arm holes down to there.
