What better match for a branch of the W Hotel, one of the world’s trendiest hotel chains, than an outpost of Bliss, the world’s trendiest high-end spa chain? Impossibly clean and scrupulously designed (even the elevator walls are imprinted with Bliss’s whimsical logo), Bliss 49 fits seamlessly into the W New York. Guests are shuffled about the reception area, which is often as busy and mechanical as if everyone were actually checking into rooms for the night, before being ushered into the elaborate locker rooms–complete with sauna and steam room. The vibe might be categorized as anti-spa: Orb-like chairs and mod décor supplant dim lighting and plush couches; Björk and Portishead replace pan flutes and harps. There is also a comprehensive list of cheekily named services (Quadruple Thighpass, Blissage instead of massage) that use the spa’s yummy-smelling products. Those actually staying at the W are privy to in-room treatments and “BIP” status that allows them priority booking. The rest of the population, however, must go through the central-booking line run out of the Bliss corporate headquarters, making a last-minute facial very unlikely. — Kate Jacobs

The fairly girly Bliss now offers two treatments designed just for men: an Homme Improvement version of the famous triple-oxygen facial, and a Manly-Cure to soften cuticles.

Bridal
This peppy day spa is as popular as ever, doling out treatments like the triple-oxygen facial and carrot-and-sesame body buff. Brides concerned with fine lines and wrinkles can try the Youth As We Know It facial.
