Profile
Adair Ilyinsky and Nadine Ferber were already tapped into what fashionistas like before they started pouring into their nail salon in December 2010. The best friends and industry insiders had a vision of mani-pedis that did not include fake leather massage chairs or inhaling acetone fumes. The salon they opened is a chic, relaxing space in a palate of grays, tans, and whites. Succulents and cacti are potted and placed artfully around the loftlike space. Pedicures take place in rounded cream-colored armchairs in front of big arched windows looking out over West Broadway. In place of those typical plastic foot tubs, which inspire fear of fung-ified jets and drains, are elegant black basins filled with warm water (and disinfected with hospital-grade bacteria-killer). There are tons of delightful details like iPads for reading, Weleda Skin Food for moisturizing, and Qtica quick dry to get you back into your boots and out the door in half the time. But having your nails polished is really about the color, and TenOverTen offers a sprawling selection of covetable shades, making it almost impossible to pick from among the bottles of Nars, Chanel, RGB, and Uslu Airlines. And at $20 for a manicure, all these extras don’t come at much of a cost.
