Profile
One of the best "budget" hotels in Manhattan, the Newton is a smart choice for travelers willing to lose some frills while still maintaining their dignity. The hotel's 110 rooms, like the lobby, are consistently clean and, though bland, don't feel chintzy. Large bathrooms add to the appeal—as do the new cherry wood desks and headboards in the remodeled rooms that come equipped with standard amenities like cable TV, movie channels and room service. Located on the Upper West Side, the hotel is removed from much of the city's action, though a subway station is only a few feet away and a nearby diner offers room service. The 12 suites are reasonably priced, come with an iron/ironing board, and can comfortably fit four people, while the shared-bath doubles start at $100.
ProsValue and consistency. Unlike a lot of the other inexpensive hotels, the Newton does not feel cheap.
Cons
The out-of-the-way location.
