Profile
Brooklyn's only full-service hotel boasts another distinction: it's also the closest outpost to the famed Brooklyn Bridge on this side of the East River. Its out-of-the-way location makes it a popular destination for businesspeople seeking refuge from Manhattan—while remaining a five-minute cab ride from the city's Financial District. Step inside the hotel, travel up the escalator and you’ll find yourself in a three-story-tall atrium, reportedly a homage to the not-so-nearby Brooklyn Botanic Garden. The airy rooms offer oodles of amenities such as high-speed Internet access, daily newspaper deliveries, in-room movies, and complimentary coffee. And while the Marriott boasts the city's fourth-largest ballroom, its biggest boast would be the stunning views of the Brooklyn Promenade, downtown Manhattan, and the Statue of Liberty.
Pros
A safe enough distance for the Manhattan-wary, but close enough for a short subway ride to the Financial District.
Cons
The traffic going on and off the Brooklyn Bridge makes for a frustrating and elongated commute via car.
Weddings
There aren’t many hotel spaces in the area, so this newly renovated and expanded site is a favorite of Brooklyn couples. The 18,105-square-foot Grand Ballroom is essentially a blank canvas and accommodates up to 1,500 guests; smaller spaces are also available. Catering starts at $120 per person.
