Profile
With rock venues Crash Mansion and the Bowery Ballroom around the block, the wall of celebrity guest photos here has grown to include a lot of by-the-wayside bands, thanks to budget suites where cash-strapped musicians and other young sojourners alike can stay in cozy, albeit campy, accommodations. The hotel offers only basic services like wake-up calls and maid service and that’s fine by most guests, who are generally self-sufficient visitors with an eye towards dividing costs. There are two room options here: a suite for two which shares its bathroom and kitchenette, and a suite for four which adds a pleather sleeper sofa. Both setups have the institutional feel of a college dorm, with dull wood floors, blank white walls, and bathrooms tiled floor-to-ceiling. But coin-op laundry machines in the basement and wireless Internet throughout make these digs a good value for anyone who'd rather go broke at the bar.
Pros
Inexpensive and within walking distance of Crash Mansion and the Bowery Ballroom.
Cons
The oft-raucous biergarten right next door may make sleep difficult for some.
