Profile

Rechristened as the Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park in 2002, the former St. Moritz Hotel is just one of many luxury hotels dotting the southern edge of Manhattan’s largest green space. The wood paneled lobby, while surprisingly tiny, generates a classical vibe thanks to colorful Samuel Halpert paintings and the stand-alone harp and baby grand piano in the adjacent lounge. Though guests pay a little more for rooms on the park, all accommodations come with Sony flat-screen televisions, DVD players and plush linens—which may end up covered in dog hair thanks to the Ritz’s pet friendly policy. Guests may also opt for some extra relaxation at the 2nd floor La Prairie spa.

Pros

Accommodating staff and convenient location.

Cons

You may not have to lift a bag, open a door, hail a cab or walk your dog during your stay, but you will have to reach into your wallet for many, many tips.
