Profile
Originally envisioned as an all-suites hotel, the Salisbury now classifies the majority of its accommodations as standard rooms. The result is that the quarters here are larger than usual for hotels with similar rates—think kitchenette and a walk-in closet. The lobby may lack modern design, but the rooms are decorated simply and inoffensively, with warm tones and florals. Specialized corporate rooms and suites, supplied with business-related amenities, are available as well. The Salisbury is located in the middle of midtown Manhattan, so there’s no shortage of things to do. It may not have the luxury or cachet of the Plaza—which, incidentally, is right around the corner—but a stay at the Salisbury will allow visitors to fuel up on a $4 continental breakfast before hitting up the Fifth Avenue boutiques, guilt-free.
ProsRoom service is provided by four neighboring restaurants each of which serve a different ethnic cuisine.
Cons
For the traveler looking to live up the NYC nightlife, be warned: those coming in after 1 a.m. must show ID at the front desk.
