The first in the W hotel chain—and the prototype boutique property—this blue-hued, boisterous mainstay still attracts hordes of people looking to check-in for a night or just check out the scene. On any given day, the large, high-ceilinged lobby is packed with both tourists and locals grabbing a drink or bite at Whiskey Blue, which is also a popular spot for late-night partying. The staff is notably friendly, attractive and helpful, while the contemporary, trendy rooms provide basic amenities and, in many cases, flat-screen TVs, down comforters, Bliss bath products and CD players. The catch? Rooms are on the small side, and aside from the lobby, much of the hotel is poorly lit. But this fun place to crash should appeal to a guest’s inner rock star—which may excuse those who find themselves ordering an $11 PB&J sandwich at 4 a.m. — Caroline E. Babson
