Profile
The Carlyle, in the elegant and posh Carlyle Hotel, is a beautiful space worthy of refined food for the Hermes set. Unfortunately, the cuisine doesn’t hit the couture mark. Over-sauced lobster thermidor may be a treat, but maybe only for the first five bites. Boring wedding-style fare like beef tenderloin is served with vegetables that may have cost $3.80 in the supermarket freezer aisle and shouldn’t be paired with your $49 meat. Desserts include soufflés (Grand Marnier, dark chocolate, or raspberry), lemon tart, and flourless chocolate cake, if you wish to spend a little more time amongst the gray haired patrons and penguin-suit clad waiters.
Recommended DishesTorchon of Hudson Valley foie gras, $26; lobster thermidor, $55
