Profile
The crowds at this cavernous, chic bistro prove that the haute-burger craze is still going strong. Five Napkin’s burgers—the centerpiece of a needlessly wide-ranging menu, which includes yellowtail sushi rolls and matzo-ball soup—arrive as juicy as advertised. The hulking 10-ounce pucks of ground chuck are piled so high with fixings that eating one sandwich-style seems like an Olympian task. (Steak knives are thoughtfully provided for those who’d rather not try.) The knockout signature version comes topped with bubbling-hot gruyere cheese, a smear of rosemary aioli, and a heap of caramelized onions on a slightly toasted roll. There’s also a veggie version stacked with tangy bread-and-butter pickle slices, and a ginger-marinated Ahi tuna option with wasabi mayo. All are accompanied by a good-sized cup of crispy shoestring fries. A hefeweisen or boutique English ale from the lengthy beer list rounds out the meal nicely, as does finishing with a slice of blueberry pie.
