Profile
Never mind the name—you won’t be seeing any wild culinary reinventions here. Just straightforward sushi in a slick neighborhood setting no more than an unagi’s toss away from of the Brooklyn Promenade. A pungent fishy odor might distract sensitive noses, but the seafood at least tastes fresh. The specialty rolls tend toward the spicy, with the Shogun capping a crab-and-avocado rendition with a wack of wasabi-marinated tuna, and the Kobe sandwiching tart slivers of lemon between a double helping of hot and mild salmon. Though this is no Food Network studio, there are some theatrical flourishes here. A quartet of sharp-looking chefs chop, slice, and assemble their offerings on a raised dais under a bank of lights. Sushi platters are plated in pretty, symmetrical arcs, resembling vibrant Japanese letters. And down-tempo beats lend an air of hipness more familiar to Brooklyn’s trendier Hills, Slopes, and Gardens than its older, and oft-soporific Heights.
