Profile
Henry Holt editor Jack Macrae and his wife, gallery owner Paula Cooper, opened this Chelsea bookstore a few years ago. Bright and airy, with high ceilings, a wall of windows, and a reading table, 192 feels like a private library. The large selection of art books and literature in translation reflects the owners' tastes, but they’ve built up the children’s section over time. The pair also hosts occasional art exhibits and frequent readings with the likes of Paul Auster and Orhan Pamuk, the Turkish novelist-of-the-moment. Reservations are required for readings.
