This perennial favorite for denim oddly resembles an old-fashioned train station, from the wrought iron transom above the wide entryway to the white marble floor and gold girders crisscrossing the high ceiling. In the cavernous space, customers browse rack after rack of hip-hop and rock-inspired clothing, shoes, and accessories for men and women—all easy to imagine on Gwen Stefani or Jay-Z—while pulsating beats pumped through the sound system make the edginess seem a tad contrived. Atrium has marketed itself mostly on its wide selection of jeans, and for good reason: They carry all the latest names, in styles from flared, tapered, and sandblasted to dark washed, distressed, and bedazzled.
