Profile
At first glance it's evident that Gringer & Sons, established 1918, is a relic of the East Village of yore, when cramped, family-run businesses ruled. But while this cluttered, three-storefront appliance shop exudes history, its top-flight appliances are all brand new. Gringer attracts architects, interior designers, contractors and savvy consumers with its discounted prices. Clearance items—including microwaves, air conditioners and refrigerators—are prominently displayed in the windows, while wax food reproductions and funky painted columns serve as modest, kitschy décor. High-visibility, haute kitchen brands like Gaggenau, Wolf, SubZero, and Bosch share floor space with high-quality brand name appliances, like GE, Maytag, Frigidaire, Panasonic and Whirlpool, and a few lower-end alternatives like Goldstar. But what sets Gringer apart are its knowledgeable employees, great sources for the lowdown on what you're buying and on each manufacturer's post-sales service. One caveat: Although Gringer takes care of all installations, and delivers throughout the tri-state area, word on the street is that they're not always punctual.
