Swedish speakers might find the name of this store misleading, because while “hus” translates to “house,” the stock here is heavy on clothing and accessories, with a scant supply of Scandinavian furnishings scattered around the shop. Owner Steen Knigge’s well-edited choices spotlight both lesser-known and established Swedish and Danish labels, and the colorful mix of women’s, men’s, and children’s clothing pops against the shop’s neutral white walls. There are sharply tailored suits and separates for both sexes from Tiger of Sweden, plus skater-friendly tops and hoodies from streetwear designer WeSC. Women can also check out the rainbow-hued Tretorn rain boots. The small selection of jewelry features sleek, sculptural pieces by Stockholm-based designer Efva Attling. Meanwhile, Arne Jacobsen-designed Stelton barware attempts to justify the shop’s moniker.
ExtraKnigge also occasionally opens the space after hours as a gallery for up-and-coming artists, and since everything is portable except the shelves, in keeping with the store's aesthetically-pleasing yet practical vibe, it's a simple matter of rolling racks out of sight.
