Profile
This inviting gallery and photographer’s mecca is dedicated to the cultish art of lomography—blurred, experimental, or color-saturated snapshot photography produced with Lomo LC-A cameras. The store beckons camera-toting devotees as well as novices with its wildly aesthetic interior: Thousands of tiny lomographs collage the walls in images of headlight-streaked Times Square, bug-eyed dogs, giddy drinking candids, concerts in motion, close-ups of food, neon Coney Island rides, kissing couples, and more. Dozens of analog cameras line the long central table, each capable of a variety of effects, from fish-eye views and wide-angle lenses to supersamplers (multiple frames in one photograph) and colorsplash flashes; handy flip books alongside the various models showcase the results. Shelves are stocked with gear—oversize camera bags, film, lenses, and fixtures—as well as stacks of photo-dense lomo-centric books for inspiration. Plushy couches are stationed for flipping through snapshots or experimenting with cameras, but most browsers gravitate toward the stairwell in back, leading to three tiers of lomography-packed rooms.
