Profile

This venue is closed.

Considering its past as a former egg warehouse, this 2,500-square-foot Tribeca space was destined for the bizarre—which is exactly what owners Patrick Parrish and Greg Wooten set out to achieve when they opened Mondo Cane in 2005. This bi-level furniture and design showroom (designed by William Massie) is a jam-packed ode to modernism. Unexpected pairings of design elements prevent the furniture from looking dated: a 1960s-style Dunbar sofa is juxtaposed with an aluminum USAF flight-crew chair and an arrangement of Lucite flowers. While major designers like Karl Springer and Milo Baughman make up the bulk of the inventory, Parrish and Wooten incorporate lesser-known and anonymous artisans into the heavily diverse and ever-evolving mix, hoping to surprise and intrigue customers—and keep them coming back.
