Profile
Architecture geeks and fashion freaks alike flock to this futuristic hub designed by Dutch modernist Rem Koolhaas. If fashion is the art of the new millennium, Prada's at the top of the heap: Occupying 23,000 square feet on the site of the former Guggenheim Soho, Prada is part exhibition hall, part retail adventure. The focal point Koolhaas's "wave": A huge, sloping, zebrawood cut-out that begins on the main floor, then dips down to the lower level, the wave occasionally doubles as amphitheater-style seating for shows or events. Complete with a circular glass elevator and translucent dressing rooms that modestly turn opaque at the touch of a button, the store is definitely heavy on design spectacle. The fashion could seem an afterthought, if Italian designer Miuccia Prada didn't repeatedly deliver the must-have styles and accessories, season after season. Find it all here, like the minimalist Prada Sport line for men and women's rich, jewel-encrusted silk dresses in colors like mustard and emerald. Savor the wallets, handbags, and luggage; the leather detailing is impeccable, much to the chagrin of every Canal Street knock-off vendor.
SalesEnd-of-season clearance sales every July and December.
