After separately designing their own lines of irreverent ready-to-wear clothing, alice + olivia co-founder Rebecca Matchett and Drew Paluba of ASP teamed up to tackle a ubiquitous office staple: the woman’s dress shirt. Bemoaning the ill-fitting proportions of standard button-downs, the pair set out to invent a flattering shirt for women of all sizes. After a year of development (including mass fittings in Boston, Philadelphia, and New York), they created the TrioFit sizing formula, which calculates shirt size based on chest circumference, bra-cup size, and height. At this tiny boutique, discreet staffers help TrioFit choose their ideal cut from a rack of sample sizes. The European fabrics change seasonally, and an array of solid-colored pastel, polka-dotted, and striped shirts are arranged on orderly shelves. The line’s best sellers are also its centerpieces: the TrioFit shirt in traditional and slim fit (which includes a nipped waist and contoured back), both with double buttons at the chest to prevent gaping. Since its launch in 2004, the brand has expanded to include skirts, tops, and trousers, as well as a popular TrioFit shirtdress.
