After a successful launch in 1997, William Reid
was awarded the prestigious CFDA Perry Ellis Menswear Award
in 2001 for his trend-eschewing designs, an honor that virtually
insured his spot among the fashion elite -- until his backer
pulled out. Reid re-launches this year, with his signature fusion
of luxurious fabrics and bold tailoring intact. The Louisiana
native has become known for imbibing Southern classics with
a cosmopolitan flair. His style -- American through and through,
but with a distinctly modern edge -- translated well to a follow-up
women's-wear collection, which featured instantly popular handbags
and shoes designed by Reid and his co-designer, Tony Smith.
