Best Hotel for a Romantic Weekend

The Mandarin's VIP Spa Suite.

MANDARIN ORIENTAL
80 Columbus Circle
212-805-8800; mandarinoriental.com

For some, romance is a four-poster bed in a fireplace-lit, rustic B&B. But that’s not very New York, is it? The kind of sexy surge of omnipotence induced by your ascent to the 35th floor of the Mandarin Oriental, on the other hand, was practically invented in this town. At the Mandarin, every room has wraparound, floor-to-ceiling windows, showcasing sunrises over Central Park and sunsets over the Hudson. Velvet chaise longues lean against windows for that perched-in-the-clouds effect, and purple orchids and dangling lanterns complete the mood (don’t spoil it by looking at the $625-a-night price tag). For the final extravagant touch, book the 6 to 9 p.m. block in the VIP Spa Suite ($1,050), soak in the stone Jacuzzi, and get side-by-side massages while you gaze out at the beautiful silent city that is—pinch yourself—Manhattan.
