Former publishing executive and entrepreneur Julie Lewit-Nirenberg was so fastidious about clothes that she started Ladies Who Launder to get the kind of service she craved. The ladies (yes, there really are ladies) of LWL obligingly follow your instructions and return your Pratesi sheets and delicate undies meticulously folded and packed in a heavy cardboard box lined with leopard-print tissue. In a recent undercover test—a white bath towel marred by a jet-black blotch of hair dye, a stain that’s almost impossible to remove—the Ladies achieved complete success. What’s most charming is that it’s no more expensive than many regular fluff-and-fold services ($1.50 per pound, with free pickup and delivery).
