Fancy lingerie tends to go overboard on the extras: embroidery, bows, ribbons, and so on, as if frills were the only way to make underthings seem special. Jean Yu takes the opposite approach, paring her designs down to the simplest geometric shapes—a bra is basically two triangles connected by some thin strings—and making them from charmeuse and chiffon so light, they’re barely perceptible. Minimalist camisoles, featherweight undies, and gowns that flutter in the slightest breeze are all done in skin-tone colors and cut to barely graze the body while still emphasizing a woman’s shape (no boning, no padding). Her off-the-rack confections are lovely, but for pure decadence, get a set made to measure.
