New Spas

Koi Spa
Gazing at the giant koi-filled aquarium may be enough to drain away your cares. If not, perhaps the Oriental Bar Treatment (in which the therapist walks on your back to work out knots) will do the trick. To remove another source of stress, day care is available on-site.
42 City Pl., Edgewater, N.J.; 201-943-6700

Graceful Spa
Graceful Services owner Grace MacNow’s daughter Lee opened her own spiffier offshoot of the uptown flagship last month, adding services such as hot-stone massage, facials, body scrubs, and parafango to the offerings. Marble and slate come with a price: Deep Chi Quong massages are $80 here, rather than $60 at the original spa—but still a bargain.
205 W. 14th St., at Seventh Ave.; 212-675-5145

Great Jones Spa
Cleansing treatments (like colonics) are offered along with aromatherapy-infused hot-towel massage, platza (massage and exfoliation with a broom made from oak leaves), and Japanese ritual baths at this dramatic oasis with a three-story waterfall and river-rock sauna, which opened in October.
29 Great Jones St., nr. Lafayette Ave.; 212-505-3185

Artisan Spa
Given the rather upscale décor and complimentary tea bar, it’s a surprise to find manicures for a mere $10 at this Union Square spa, which opened January 8. Hydrotherapy and prenatal massage are also available.
143 Fourth Ave., nr. E. 13th St.; 212-260-1338

Restore Spa
There’s an upside to the close quarters of Albert Garcia’s (brother of nutritionist Oz) prewar apartment turned spa: Staff is never far away. Among the more interesting treatments are clay heat therapy for the body and electromagnetic makeovers, which use low-voltage currents to help reduce muscle contractions.
10 W. 74th St., Ste. 1D, nr. Central Park West 212-877-5500

Cornelia Day Resort
Mammoth (two floors, 20,000 square feet, a roof garden for outdoor treatments in summer) and ambitious, this spa will have a heated pool for “watsu” (shiatsu done in water), Romanian mud baths, a separate men’s environment with four specific treatments, champagne service every afternoon, and a 35-seat rooftop café.
663 Fifth Ave., at W.52nd St. 212-871-3050
