Aegean
221 Columbus Ave., at 70th St.
212-873-5057
Greek
A tad pricier than other Greek restaurants that deliver, but
fabulous. We highly recommend the lamb disheslamb chops
($23.50), kabobs ($14.75), keftedes ($15.50). And ask about
the grilled whole fish of the day. Aegean carries several authentic
sides you won't find in many local tavernas, like potato and
rice savory pies ($4.95) and polenta infused with Haloumi cheese
($4.95). -Updated from the 2001 Take-Out Guide

Middle Eastern
You don't have to live near Atlantic Ave.: Alibaba is your outpost
for traditional, kosher Yemenite dishes on the Upper West Side.
We recommend the uniquely-flavored Jachnoon ($7.95)an
oven-baked dough served with crushed tomatoes, chilies, and
an optional hard-boiled egg. The more familiar Shawarma platters
($12.95), sandwiches ($7.95), and falafels wrapped in freshly-baked
lafa bread ($5.50 ) make a filling meal. All sandwiches come
with a side salad.

Artie's Delicatessen
2290 Broadway at 83rd Street
212-579-5959
Because sometimes you need a hot dogboiled, grilled, smothered
in chili, or wrapped in a knishand if you want one delivered,
and you want it hand made, call Artie's. This retro delicatessen
is famed for more than its hot dogs: towering Roumanian Pastrami
sandwiches on rye ($8.50) Jewish Chef Salads ($11.95), stuffed
cabbage appetizers ($4.95), and birthday cake by the slice ($3.95)
all add to its charm. Having a group over? For a party of nine,
you could order in the "My Son's Becoming a Doctor Party" package.
It will run you under $100 for a deli platter, potato salad,
cole slaw, Jewish rye bread, and pickles. The "Mid Life Crisis"
catering package serves an assortment of sandwiches and salads
for 20 guests ($219).
Minimum: $8 from 72nd to 92nd Sts; $12 - $30 above 92nd

Bar Food
This grub is perfect for football Sundays, poker nights, and
American Idol parties. Stick to the wings: Buffalo wings, available
in eight heat levels escalating from weak to wicked, come in
orders ranging from 10 to 100 pieces ($6.50 to $55.25). That
they arrive so hot and crispy makes us marvel every time we
order. The New York-style cheesecake is good too. . -Updated

Gennaro
665 Amsterdam Ave., between 92nd and 93rd
Sts.
212-665-5348
Italian
For traditional, Mediterranean fare, Gennaro's is the neighborhood
favaorite. An outstanding potato and portabella tart with goat
cheese ($8.50) arrives warm and savory. Skip the simpler pasta
dishes, and opt for the homemade ravioli ($12.95), lemony cornish
hen ($11.50), lamb shank in red wine sauce ($13.95), or the
salsiccia con broccoli di rape e polenta ($10.50) which combines
pudding-like polenta with sweet, fennel-rich Italian sausage.
Ask about the specials: Occasionally, they offer a home-made
pasta with pecorino (sheep's milk cheese) and pepper that's
outrageously tasty. (Hint: If you must have grated cheese on
your pastas, pick it up at the store. They won't deliver it.)

Harriet's Kitchen
502 Amsterdam Ave., between 84th and 85th
Sts.
212-721-0045
Chicken
There's about as much room in Harriet's Kitchen as in any other
New Yorker's kitchen, which makes Harriet's primarily a take-out
joint. And if you don't cook at home, the down-home cooking
here offers a nice substituteespecially if you like chicken.
You can order chicken ($6.95) roasted, fried, grilled and skinless,
on a pasta, in a salad, or in a pot pie. You can also get it
in "Grandma's Restorative Chicken Noodle" soup ($3.25), though
not, presumably, in the gazpacho. Some juicy, non-chicken meat
also graces the menu, in the form of meatloaf ($7.95), thick
burgers ($5.50 with fries), and even braised beef. Vegetarians
will have to stick with sides, but with mashed potatoes, mac-n-cheese
($3.75), and the aptly-named garlic-flavored "Perfectly Wilted
Spinach" ($3.75) on hand, they won't go hungry.
Minimum: $8 cash/$9 credit card

It's a Wrap
2012 Broadway, between 68th and 69th Sts.
212-362-7922
Sandwiches
The wrap craze of the mid-90's may be over, but a wrap still
makes a tasty and particularly portable alternative to a sandwich.
Fresh flatbread binds together traditional ingredients like
mozzarella, red peppers, and pesto (Moe and Tom wrap, $6.45)
or less traditional ingredients like ginger-garlic marinated
chicken, cumin-lemon chick-pea salad (Bombay Bird, $6.95). Vegetarian
or meaty, hot or cold, low-fat or not, a wrap makes a neat picnic
meal, especially since you can get it delivered straight to
Central Park. And add a fruit smoothie to your order ($3.50
16 oz., $4.50 24 oz.)! You don't have to settle for a Bomb Pop
from the hot dog cart.
Minimum: $8
Delivery area: 57th St. to 86th St., CPW to Riverside
Dr.; will deliver outside of area for fee and price of taxi
ride.
