The Argentine tango is often compared to sex, and with good reason: Learning its corridas (runs) and boleos (leg flips) requires a partner who can sense your rhythms, not just teach you the steps. You’re sure to find your match at the capacious Dance Manhattan, where classes are very social and the teachers typically hail from Forever Tango, Argentina, or both. There’s no need to enroll in the four-week sessions ($70) with a partner—you practice the steps as a group, at least at the beginning, and then take turns leading and following with pretty much everyone in the room. We suggest a basic course for the first month, honing your skills between visits with free lessons at the Argentine consulate, and popping into the studio’s Wednesday-night Tango Jam.
