Best of New York Nightlife 2003

Best Return Engagement

  • Sin-é

    150 Attorney Street, 212-388-0077

The dustbin of nightlife history is filled with attempted updates of era-defining clubs. So when Sin-é—famously frequented by everyone from Jeff Buckley to Bono to Sinead O’Connor in the late eighties—reopened this year, there was every reason to doubt its survival. Miraculously, the club (relocated to the Lower East Side) has almost instantaneously gotten its groove back. Bookings at Sin-é 2.0 are heavy on new New York rock, a blessing for Manhattan since Brooklyn seems to have reaped all of the rewards of the rock explosion. Best of all, while the cover at Sin-é is Brooklyn-style cheap, the club is run with the discipline of Manhattan workhorses like the Mercury Lounge—there are four or five bands per night, and you can set your watch to the start times.
