Best Affordable Art

  • Robin Rice

    325 West 11th Street, 212-366-6660; robinricegallery.com

So you want to invest in some real art. No need to attend any intimidating auctions. At Robin Rice’s West Village photo gallery, you can find a fabulous original, for about the price of an iPod, that might be worth big bucks someday. Rice shows work by photographers who aren’t household names—yet. “This is what I would collect,” she says of the hand-picked landscapes, still lifes, and portraits that fill the store. (Currently showing: oversize, supersaturated color photographs of low-rider cars by Kim Reierson). Unframed works range from $400 for an 8-by-10 print to $1,500 for a 30-by-40. Rice displays ten artists regularly and is developing fifteen more; there’s a new show every six weeks, but if you don’t see something you like, she’ll happily lead you to the stock in back.
